 Support House Bill 984!

House Bill 984 amends Chapter 371 of the Acts of 1964 which gave Brockton access to Monponsett Ponds as an emergency water source. Since then Brockton has relied on the Monponsett Ponds as its primary source of water from September through May, often taking more than it's daily needs to restock Silver Lake for use during the summer months.  This results in poor outflow into Stump Brook from the Monponsetts. Silver Lake has a similar problem with little to no outflow into the Jones River. Good outflow "flushes" the lakes of harmful nutrients which cause algae growth. Good flow also encourages healthy wildlife, especially herring migration coming upstream to spawn in the lakes.

HB 984 requires that the lakes be managed to sustain "continuous flow provided to all the out-flowing rivers, including Jones River, Stump Brook, and Herring Brook, to support and sustain their water quality as well as maintain the health and function of the ecosystem."

Please contact your local representatives, Kathleen LaNatra of the 12th Plymouth, Kenneth Sweezey of the 6th Plymouth, and Patrick Joseph Kearney of the 4th District, all whom sponsored the bill, as well as Michele Dubois of 10th District who opposes the bill and let them know YOU support the health of our lakes!
